Harry Kelly - Unit 8

During the lead up to the big finale of performing our piece I had set myself goals that I wanted to achieve with my various partners. From the first week, having first impressions of our parts, to the week of performance I feel that we had grown as actors and made our characters have a more in-depth meaning, background and managed to convey the message we were trying to say.  In the first week, me and my partners sat down and having read the parts we were in, decided it was best to explain our initial thoughts on who the characters were and what exactly were we going to do with them. For example; In grass, there are clearly two characters with one angry with the other, that was as clear as day. We then decided perhaps what relation should they have in connection to one another. I feel that at the beginning of the term I was very rusty and new, as we all were. I wasn’t used to the in-depth approach to drama compared to what I was taught at GCSE. It was massive jump to the level we are taught at Westminster Kingsway. We were taught Stanislavsky in small detail during GCSE level but it was interesting to know his motives and approach on drama at College level. In total I am participating in 6 of the pieces of love and information. I'm in ; Grass, Terminal , Star, Recluse,  Earthquake, and Savant. We are all in wedding video at the end. I really like the play, especially the challenging aspect of it being up to the actor and director to shoot the scene. Its got quite controversial especially Terminal - its quite a touchy subject because we have all lost someone to an illness; and to be honest I want to do patients justice by playing it with thought and as natural as possible. And with earthquake; one of the  earliest memories of a catastrophic disaster I remember is the 2011 tsunami/earthquake disaster in Japan. I remember being gobsmacked I was only young at the time. I was in a hotel getting ready to go to a wedding reception, and the contrast of how they must be feeling (sad and terrified) in a midst to the fun I was going to have was compelling in retrospect. Caryl Churchill Author and Playwright of our current play,"Love and Information" (2012) Caryl Churchill was born the 3rd of September in London but she has lived in the Lake district and has lived in Montreal also. She went to Lady Margret Hall in Oxford, where she was educated and formed a liking to English. While still studying at University, she wrote her very own play called Downstairs, and in 1958, it was first performed winning an award for the Sunday Times National Union of students drama festival. She was also a writer for radio producing several plays such as , "The Ants (1962) , Lovesick (1967) and Abortive (1971). She was resident dramatist at the royal court '74-75.
